Brewery news

With more breweries in one city than anywhere else in the region, London is justifiably proud of the beer it crafts, The London Free Press reported on November 28.

Producing much more than a beverage, London’s breweries serve up an enjoyable and informative adventure for people who love a good pint – and those who haven’t discovered their affinity for beer yet.

Tastings, tours and gatherings are on tap for people looking to shake things up when going out for drinks. Local breweries are helping adults embrace the social side of responsible drinking with fun and healthy activities capped off with a beer.

London’s booming beer sector covers every preference, from craft breweries making small-batch, premium beers to Labatt Brewing Company generating beer in staggering volumes.

“Consumers now travel for an experience where they have the freedom to experiment with diverse and unique flavours and London has exactly that to offer in the beer scene. Not only do we host local craft breweries but also iconic brands in the beer realm. This plays a major factor in the uproar of brewery tours and craft beer as a whole,” says Aimy Thai, Tourism London marketing assistant.

“Each brewery in London has their own story to tell, whether it is about the origin of their quality ingredients, local historical significance, community partnership projects, innovation or contributions to sustainability,” Thai says.

London Brewing, a worker-owned cooperative, and one of only two craft breweries in Ontario that produce certified organic craft beer made in its brewhouse and sold in the taproom and retail shop at 521 Burbrook Pl.

Anderson Craft Ales’ tap house at 1030 Elias St. is hopping with special events combining beer brewed onsite with painting, bingo, running and other activities.

Powerhouse Brewing Company at 100 Kellogg Ln. boasts a brew pub that pairs its collection of craft beers with taproom meals.

Forked River Brewing Company, London’s oldest operating craft brewery, offers a spectrum of craft beer including barrel aged creations in their family friendly taproom and retail shop at 45 Pacific Ct.

Toboggan Brewing Company at 585 Richmond St. brews its flagship and seasonal beers below the floors of its brewpub, 519 Kitchen. The brewery and kitchen both use local ingredients.

From its first brewery on Simcoe Street in London, Labatt has grown to become Canada’s leading brewer and a proud member of the Anheuser-Busch InBev family, the world’s largest brewer. Labatt remains committed to brewing great beer and today offers consumers a portfolio of over 60 brands including Budweiser, and Keith’s. Experience the company’s beer making journey on the Labatt Brewery Tour.

“The two things that no one can live without each day are food and drink. London has a wide variety of both that perfectly complement each other,” Thai points out. “There is clear passion in our local beer sector – and understandably, an enthusiastic following.”
