Brewery news

When 3 Floyds Brewing Co. closed the doors to their brewpub on March 15 in response to the coronavirus pandemic, their leadership made it clear that safety was their top priority while expressing a desire to reopen as soon as possible, The Indianapolis Star reported on May 20.

More than two months later, the 3 Floyds team has determined that the risk created by the outbreak is too great, and has decided to close the Munster eatery and gathering spot indefinitely.

All plans to expand the brewpub have also been suspended.

"There’s no other way to put it — 2020 has sucked. We’ve been navigating this new world day by day and rolling with the punches it has thrown at us," 3 Floyds officials wrote in a Facebook post shared around 12:45 p.m. on May 20.

According to the Lake County Health Department, restaurants and bars that serve food in the county could begin operating at 50% capacity beginning May 18.

"The safety of our customers and staff is our first priority, and at this time, we do not have immediate plans to reopen 3 Floyds Brewpub for bar or dine-in service," the post continues. "We’re going to continue to brew the beer that brought us together and uphold the culture that you all have built with us over the past fifteen years in the pub."

The Facebook post also makes it clear that brewery operations will continue.

"Although we can’t pour you one at the bar, our beer & spirits (plus merch and packaged food items) will continue to be available for curbside pickup at the brewery," the statement says.

3 Floyds officials end the post by thanking the staff and community for years of support.

"Cheers to all of the servers, chefs, hosts, bartenders, dishwashers, line cooks, kiosk warriors, and managers who have been a part of our crew since 2005. We could not have asked for a better team," they write. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who has stopped in for a pint, knocked back a plate (or ten) of cheese curds, or posted up with their pup on the patio. Each of you left a lasting impression on our ‘not normal’ hearts. Cheers to you."

The Chicago Tribune reports that workers have been furloughed as a result of the closure.
