| E-Malt.com News article: Ukraine: Ukraine exports around 80% of this season’s exportable barley surplus
Ukraine has exported 3.4 million tonnes of barley in the first four months of the 2020/21 July-June season, using around 80% of this season's exportable surplus, analyst APK-Inform said on November 18.
Poor weather has cut the barley harvest to 7.98 million tonnes this year from 8.92 million tonnes in 2019, reducing possible export to 4.2 million tonnes in 2010/21 from almost 5 million tonnes a season earlier.
The consultancy said China was the major export destination for Ukrainian barley this season with the volume of 2.3 million tonnes, almost three time more than in the same period in 2019/20.
Ukraine also exported 334,200 tonnes of barley to Saudi Arabia, which used to be the leading importer of Ukrainian barley for many years, and 245,000 tonnes to Libya.
Ukraine accounts for about 16% of global grain exports and sold 56.7 million tonnes of various grains to foreign buyers in the 2019/20 season. In the 2020/21 season, the export could decrease to 47 million tonnes, the economy ministry has said.
