Mobile’s Serda Brewing has announced that it has sold to an out-of-state brewer and will hold a closing party Friday, May 28, al.com reported.
Serda Brewing was the first brewery to open in downtown Mobile in recent years following the relaxation of Alabama laws governing craft beer production and distribution. It occupied a former tire store on Government Street, revitalizing what had long been a prominent downtown eyesore.
According to a message posted late on May 24 by the brewery, the new owner will reveal itself with an announcement planned for Monday, May 31.
“Our last day as Serda Brewing is Monday, May 31st, so we are having a farewell party for all our great customers and loyal supporters this Friday, May 28th from 4-11pm,” said the message. “We will have live music by Greg Afek starting at 7pm and food from Greek Gals food truck. We will continue to operate as usual as Serda Brewing from now until June 1st, and look forward to seeing a lot of friendly faces before we say goodbye.”
The message went on to say that Serda will continue distributing beer to restaurants and stores in Mobile and Baldwin county and that most staff will stay on with the new owner. Head brewer Simon Sothras, who came aboard in mid 2020 to revitalize the brewery’s lineup, “will be leaving to pursue a new venture,” said the statement.
Serda Brewing was opened in December 2017 by partners including John Serda, a downtown businessman known for his Serda’s Coffee on Royal Street. Mobile currently has two more breweries in operation downtown, Old Majestic and Braided River, as well as one brewpub, Iron Hand.
