E-Malt.com News article: The Netherlands: Production of hops in greenhouses explored in the Netherlands

Holland Hops and Inholland University of Applied Sciences are exploring production of hops in greenhouses for use in local beers, RMI Analytics said in their early August report.

The group created the Hollandse Hop RAAK SME research project with Wageningen University and Research, the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Hogeschool Leiden and several other companies. So far, results show hops can be effectively grown in greenhouses, however, the cultivation efficiency still has to be tweaked, especially due to high current energy costs.

The team is looking at sustainable heating methods which could solve this challenge in the future.
