E-Malt.com News article: Tanzania: Tanzania Breweries committed to working closely with other smaller breweries

The Tanzania Breweries Ltd (TBL Plc.) has expressed its commitment to continue working closely and engaging with other smaller breweries so as to promote production of quality products in the country, IPPMedia.com reported on October 8.

TBL managing director, Jose Daniel Moran made the statement when the members of Twiga Brewery visited TBL plant in Arusha for a knowledge exchange session.

He also said the company will also strengthen engagement to support more smallholder farmers of various crops including sorghum and barley.

“These engagements with the representatives of Twiga Brewery are a key part of our role and responsibility as one of the country’s oldest brewing companies and one of Tanzania's most valuable brands. The visit will allow us to exchange ideas, and to better understand the vision of the industry with Twiga,” Moran said.

Plant manager, Joseph Mwaikasu shared a presentation on the plant’s production overview and DPO pillars. Twiga members toured the state-of-the-art facilities the Arusha plant has.

Raphael Flury, Twiga Brewery spokesperson said the visit has been a very valuable opportunity to gain insight into TBL’s operations and explore avenues of cooperation and support in the year to come.

“Extensive sharing of data, information, and practical knowledge will help pinpoint the direction of how our brewery can continue to grow,” Flury said.

TBL is implementing a contract farming programme, a move which has transformed the lives of the majority of small-holder farmers in various regions.

Through its Smart Agriculture Initiative, TBL has become Tanzania’s active player in the agriculture value chain directly empowering farmers of its main agricultural inputs: sorghum, barley, and grapes. The Smart Agriculture Initiative has a goal to achieve 100 percent skilled, connected, and financially empowered TBL direct farmers by 2025 among all farmers delivering to TBL.

The firm has targeted such knowledge and skill-sharing activities to continue building relationships that will last and see businesses benefit from the expertise within TBL.

In the newly released TBL’s Smart Agriculture Report 2022, it confirmed that 62 percent of farmers who are part of the company’s contract farming worry less about their children’s tomorrow because the school fees challenge is now a thing of the past.

The report also shows that 51 percent of farmers were able to build their own good houses through an increased income from the farm.
