Cameroon Beverages Company (SABC) announced on May 27 the launch of a new bottling line at its Bafoussam plant, Business in Cameroon reports.

According to the company, this line, set to begin operations in October, will have a capacity of 35,000 glass bottles per hour. The local subsidiary of the French group Castel specifies that this new line incorporates "all the latest technologies in online control and optimal bottling conditions."

The Bafoussam plant currently has a capacity of 1.49 million hectolitres (1.2 million hectolitres in glass and 290,000 hectolitres in PET, polyethylene terephthalate used to package carbonated beverages).

"The commissioning of this line... will allow the retirement of the aging chain 4 (after 36 years of loyal service) and will have a significant impact on quality and productivity: the glass capacity of the plant will thus increase to 1.6 million hectolitres with optimizations planned in beer production," explains the company, which holds an 80% market share in Cameroon.

This new production line is part of an investment plan implemented by the brewing company to increase production capacities at its Yaoundé, Douala, and Bafoussam plants, aiming to strengthen territorial coverage and ensure alignment between market demand and production capacity. It's worth noting that the beverage market has been experiencing shortages regularly.

The Bafoussam plant was launched in 1967. It spans nearly 4 hectares and has a workforce of 277 employees and 99 contractors, totaling 376 individuals as of December 31, 2023.
