Brewery news

Lately a number of downtown Memphis businesses have been closing, but there’s a new business that’s bucking the trend, News3 Channel reported on September 12.

Memphis Filling Station, a dream turned reality for owner Scott Kley-Contini, is set to launch Friday, September 13 on GE Patterson near Third, with a menu featuring new beers and fan favorites.

“I have been brewing beer since I was old enough to brew beer,” Kley-Contini said. “In my twenties everything I was making was really good. Everybody would taste it and say, ‘You know you should start selling this.'”

What sets them apart? Transparency. Customers can see the experimental brewing process up close, with equipment on full display.

“This is our open concept,” he said. “We want people to come in, be able to feel like they are part of the process. They can see how it’s being made. Ask questions about it and it’s right there within your grasp.”

Kley-Contini’s optimistic about the downtown location, despite recent closures. He sees it as an opportunity for growth.

Luanne Yeley, executive director of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, shares his enthusiasm, saying crime numbers are down, and this new development is a welcomed addition.

“I think that crime is certainly a reality. Glad to see that the numbers have decreased in our downtown area thanks to the law enforcement and community initiatives, continuing to make Downtown a safe and welcoming environment,” Yeley said.

You’ll be able to join the celebration all weekend long and give a taste-test yourself…this Friday… starting at 1 p.m.

“Some of our signatures are milk stout,” Kley-Contini said. “We also have a milk stout with coffee. It’s probably one of our most popular beers. We also have the left-handed screwdriver, which is the honey orange wheat beer.”
