In 2002 the Portuguese brewers produced 600 000 hl of beer moreover than in 2001, according to Portugal’s press. 80% of sales were made in the CHR sector (cafe, hotel, restaurant) and in retail shops, with the remainder exported. The top brewers in the market were the two local players Unicer and Centralcer, with a 58.8% share and 39.7% share respectively.
Centralcer is a property of Scottish & Newcastle since 2000, with the mark Sagres (39,7 % Shares Of Market). Unicer is held to 44% by Danish Carlsberg, with the mark Super Bok (58,8 % PDM) which is number one in the country.
In 2001, Portugal had produced 6 554 000 hl (source CBMC).
