Brewery news

Shepherd Neame announced on March 20 that the finest Kentish food and drink will be on display at the fourth 'Flavours of Faversham' festival on 3 and 4 June 2006. Shepherd Neame, who have been brewing continuously from their site in the historic market town since 1698, is just one of the local producers taking a leading role in this year's event.

The annual festival showcases the best local food and drink, attracting quality producers from across the county. Connoisseurs looking for speciality food and drink ideas and families wanting a fun day out will find a wealth of local products and food-related events.

Highlights of Flavours of Faversham in 2006 will include: - A beer and food trail leading visitors around Faversham to sample an international array of food and drink. For £5, visitors can buy a book of vouchers which can be redeemed for food made with or matched with speciality beers at pubs, restaurants and speciality shops amongst others. Barkaway's butchers will be offering Spitfire sausages, try Japanese beer Asahi with sushi at The Sun Inn, and Master Brew bread at Oscar's bakery.

- A Spitfire sausage throwing competition in association with Barkaway's Butchers, plus other events including sausage target practice!

- Tutored beer tastings by the head brewer in the Shepherd Neame marquee in Court Street, with special guest beers from local microbreweries. Some of these beers will be matched with food.

- The Shepherd Neame Challenge - students from local schools will create food dishes made from local ingredients.

- A farmers' market in the centre of the historic market town.

- Guided tours of the new Shepherd Neame visitor experience, which is scheduled to open in May.

Shepherd Neame production and distribution director Ian Dixon said, "Flavours of Faversham is an ideal opportunity for food and drink lovers to both discover the rich variety of produce available on their doorstep and support local producers."
