In December 2002 Ukraine exported 287,000 tons of barley, which is by 9,000 tons or 2.9% less than in the month before, agrimarket.info reported. Average export price under December contracts dropped from $82.2 per ton in November to $81.9.
Shipments decreased to Tunisia and Morocco; no shipments were registered to Japan. At the same time - shipments to Saudi Arabia increased, this country remaining the largest importer of Ukrainian barley. In December it bought 204,000 tons (139,000 tons in November) and its share in the total export exceeded 70%.
Over the first six months of the marketing year (MY - July through June) Ukraine exported 1.99 million tons of barley - 1.6% up from the amount in July-December 2001. APK-Inform analysts estimate export in January to have been some 250,000 tons. Our export forecast for the current season is 3.5 million tons. In 2001/02 MY Ukraine exported 2.8 million tons of barley.
