Young & Co's Brewery PLC said the retail business has started the year well, with managed house total sales up 11 pct and good like-for-like trading, AFX announced July 11.

The brewer and pubs operator said a number of its pubs gained a positive impact from the World Cup, particularly those games involving England.

Moreover, the majority of the pub estate has substantial outside areas, so the company has also benefited from the summer weather of the past month.

Since the start of the current financial year, Young & Co's Brewery has acquired a further eight pubs and are in advanced negotiations on five others. The acquisitions will bring the estate up to 221 managed and tenanted pubs.

The company said it is also making good progress on plans for the integration of its brewing activities into the Wells & Young's Brewing Company.
