Brau Union, part of Austrian drinks group BBAG, said it is to cease production at its brewery in Innsbruck in western Austria in August, switching to its Wieselburg site in North-Eastern Austria and its Kaltenhausen brewery in Salzburg. “The closure, which will result in 30 redundancies, was attributed to falling beer consumption,” the company said.
The brewer operates some other eight breweries in Austria. Brau Union with a total output of 4.8 million hl controls around 57% of the Austrian beer market.
