Brewery news

Cobra Beer has completed a spectacular hat-trick winning a total of 20 gold medals at Brussels’ prestigious Monde Selection World Quality Awards 2007 – the most in the world awarded for beer for the third year running, Monaycontrol reported June 6. This included an incredible six grand gold medals. The ceremony was held last week in Barcelona, Spain, and was attended by brands drawn from over 60 countries around the world.

The gold medals awarded to Cobra Beer were split between three of Cobra’s international brewing partners and they are a testament to the continued strength of Cobra’s brewing relationships with Wells & Young’s in the UK, Browar Belgia in Poland and Mount Shivalik Group in India.

Wells & Young’s, Cobra’s UK-based brewer received one grand gold medal for bottled Cobra 330ml and a further two gold medals for Cobra draught and its bottled 660ml product.

Of the 20 gold medals won, 14 were awarded to Cobra products brewed by Browar Belgia in Poland, including an incredible five grand gold medals for bottled 330ml Cobra, King Cobra 750ml, King Cobra in cans and US export brand Krait Prestige (two). Another award worthy of note was the gold medal awarded to Cobra’s new Cobra Bite with Sweet Lime lager, which was making its debut in this year’s competition. Browar Belgia was also rewarded for consistently high brewing standards for Krait Beer with the award of two High International Quality trophies.

Cobra’s brewing partner in India, Mount Shivalik was awarded gold medals for each of the three products it entered, most notably for King Cobra in its first year at the Monde Selection. Having been awarded gold medals for three successive years, Mount Shivalik too was commended for its high brewing standards of Cobra Super Premium Beer with the award of two High International Quality trophies.

Lord Bilimoria CBE DL, founder and Chief Executive of Cobra Beer said: “I am delighted with our achievements at this year’s Monde Selection – the award of 20 gold medals including 6 grand gold medals is fantastic. For the third year running now, we have won more gold medals than any other brewer in the world and that is a truly remarkable feat. We have also won gold medals in each of the last seven successive years and this shows that we are consistently brewing beers of the highest standard. We are indebted once again to our Technical Director, Robert Knox, who oversees Cobra’s brewing operations throughout the world, and to the whole team at Cobra Beer, whose dedication has seen the company continue to go from strength to strength.”

"This is fantastic news and enormous credit is due to each of our brewing partners – Wells & Young’s, Browar Belgia and Mount Shivalik, Robert Knox himself added. “We are thrilled to have won these gold medals from Monde Selection, an organisation with a global reputation for recognising the world’s best products. Our success with all Cobra products helps communicate our commitment to producing high quality products to distributors, buyers and consumers.”
