Brewery news

Shumensko beer owned by Carlsberg has grabbed 17.8% of the Bulgarian beer market, CEO of Carlsberg Bulgaria Alexander Grancharov was quoted as saying by FoodBizDaily on December, 11.

During the first ten month of 2009 the market share of the brand reached 25% in its home region - Shumen, Razgrad, Targovishte, Silistra, Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse, the company claimed.

"This year we have already launched a number of product innovations for the brand. We have Shumensko Premium in 2 litre PET bottle marketed as Shumensko Dark in October and changed the bottle and the label of Shumensko Light which is also available in 2 litres PET bottle, Grancharov added.

He explained that the results of the launch of Shumensko Dark in the market were beyond the initial expectations of the company. For the period 20 October - 30 November the sales of the product exceeded all the initially projected volumes. Shumensko Dark is available in packs of 0.5 litre and 2.0 litres.

Carlsberg Bulgaria plans to maintain the current level of investments next year, said Nikolai Dobrev, production director at the company. In 2009, the company invested nearly 12 million lev in the modernization of its plant in Shumen and nearly 10 million - in the factory in Blagoevgrad.
