Brewery news

Cold Spring Brewing Co. is investing up to $10 million to upgrade and expand its brewery as it reaches out to craft beer drinkers, Business Journal reported on May, 31.

The 10-month project should be completed in time for the new brewhouse to open next March, the St. Cloud Times reported.

Cold Spring, located in the city of the same name, mostly does work for other beer companies, including 21st Amendment Brewery of San Francisco. The expansion will allow it to take on more of that sort of work, but also make new beers under new labels. It also makes its own brands of beer, listed here.

Cold Spring Brewing General Manager Doug DeGeest said the craft brewing of specialty beers has grown about 9 percent per year over the last three years, while sales of major-label domestic beers have been decreasing.

DeGeest said the brewery will move from a two-vessel brewhouse to a five-vessel brewhouse and expects to produce an extra 100,000 to 125,000 31-gallon barrels of beer a year, about double its current capacity.
