Barley news

Recent rains across Europe had a variable impact on crops, HGCA reported earlier this week.

In Spain, harvest is underway with early yield indications good, however delays may develop if rain persists. In France, the barley harvest is underway across central and southern areas. French wheat crops are at least 2 weeks ahead of normal and (except those north of La Seine) in the latter stages of grain-fill or approaching maturity, with the benefits of rainfall more limited.

In Germany, rains were beneficial to 'still filling' winter wheat crops. The German farm Co-op Association puts the total grain crop at 40.8Mt, 8% lower than 2010, with wheat output down 7% at 22.3Mt. Rapeseed output is seen down 24% at 4.33Mt.

Rains were reported as beneficial to crops in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.
