Brewery news

US based craft brewer, New Belgium Brewing, will enter Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC, in the process of expanding its distribution into 28 states and the District of Columbia. The new territories will officially open on August 22, Drinks Business Review reported on August, 9.

The company believes that the expansion, with the initial launch of 22oz bottles of Fat Tire, Ranger IPA and fall seasonal, Hoptober Ale, will bring its portfolio further north along the eastern seaboard.

Earlier, the company did not include distribution plans in Montgomery County due to logistical challenges, however, its recent deal allows distribution of draft and 22oz bottles in the county as well.

The brewer's portfolio of year-round beers includes Fat Tire Amber Ale, Ranger IPA, Sunshine Wheat, Blue Paddle Pilsner, 1554 Black Ale, Abbey, Mothership Wit and Trippel.

In 2010, New Belgium produced about 660,000 barrels of beer, which is up about 12% when compared to 2009. Recently, the company announced its plans to open a 16,000sqft can line in addition to its bottling hall in order to increase its canning volume capacity.
