Brewery news

Four Peaks Brewing Co. will open a second brewery in Tempe, Phoenix Business Journal reported on October, 19.

The Tempe-based specialty beer maker has been looking for a second brewery to accommodate its growth and compliment its current brewery. That existing brewery is near its capacity under state regulations that limit individual facilities to producing 40,000 barrels of beer per year.

Four Peaks has leased an industrial building for the new $3 mln brewery, which is slated to open next summer.

The Arizona beer company looked at 25 sites including ones Scottsdale, Mesa and downtown Phoenix, but opted for the Tempe site, which will produce more of its well-known seasonal beers such as Pumpkin Porter.

“There were a number of properties in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa on our short list, but unfortunately remediation would have taken longer than was possible for us,” said Four Peaks co-owner Jim Scussel.

Four Peaks brews are sold in 750 locations in Arizona.

The company picked the new Tempe site because it had a quick turnaround time and it is close to its Tempe home base.

“To accommodate Four Peaks’ aggressive timeline, we moved quickly to negotiate a lease and have already begun improvements to the building,” said Mike Sacco, vice president of EastGroup Properties, which owns the building.

The lease was signed on October, 17.

Four Peaks was represented in the ten-year lease by Anthony Nocifera, principal with Abitare Realty Advisors & Investment Corp. EastGroup was represented by Curtis Brown and Bob Crum of Ross Brown Partners.

The Tempe craft beer maker also has a pub and restaurant in North Scottsdale.
