Brewery news

Ravinder and Manjit Minhas, the brother and sister owners of Minhas Craft Brewery, have announced plans to open a new brewing facility in Calgary in March of next year, Canadian Beer News reported on December, 6.

Launched in 2002 under the name Mountain Crest Brewing, the company originally operated on contract brewing basis, with all of their beer brewed at Joseph Huber Brewing in Monroe, Wisconsin before being shipped into Canada. In 2006, the Minhas siblings purchased the Huber factory and renamed it Minhas Craft Brewery, where they continue to brew a number of original Huber-owned brands as well as their own, many of which are aimed at the discount beer market.

The new Calgary facility, to be known as Minhas Micro Brewery, will be smaller than the Wisconsin plant where most of the company’s brands will still be produced. But at 10,000 square feet with an annual output of close to 30,000 hectolitres, it will be larger than most independent craft breweries.

Manjit Minhas noted that production at the new brewery will concentrate primarily on the craft-oriented brands that have recently been added to the Minhas portfolio, such as Chocolate Bunny Stout and Imperial Jack Double IPA. Also produced there will be Uptown Girl, a beer oriented towards women, and kegs of several mainstream Minhas brands including Mountain Crest and Boxer Lager.
