Brewery news

Black Creek Historic Brewery has announced the release of a new bottled beer, a historic-style brown ale called Rifleman’s Ration, to mark the bicentennial of the War of 1812, Canadian Beer News reported on June, 3.

According to the release announcement, the name of the beer comes from the ration of a penny a day that British soldiers were given to buy beer during the War of 1812. This beer money ration stayed in place until 1873, and led to many taverns being constructed near military garrisons to serve locally-brewed beer to the thirsty soldiers. In keeping with this local tradition, Rifleman’s Ration has been brewed using exclusively Ontario-grown ingredients.

Black Creek Rifleman’s Ration is available now at select LCBO locations for C$3.95 per 500 ml bottle.
