Brewery news

Davidson Brothers Brewing in Glens Falls, NY expects to have a site chosen in the next three months for a new $3 million craft brewery scheduled to open in late 2013, The Business Review reported on December, 24.

The brewery in Warren County, New York, about 50 miles north of Albany, will employ six to eight people to start.

Davidson Brothers current has enough brewing capacity on-site to keep its own Davidson Brothers Restaurant & Brewery, a popular pub at 184 Glen St. in downtown Glens Falls, stocked with the company’s signature beer.

But the 3,500 barrels of Davidson Brothers beer sold for retail are produced at Shipyard Brewing Co., a microbrewery in Portland, Maine. The new brewery, with a 50-barrel capacity, will allow Davidson Brothers to bring the retail production in-house.

On Dec. 19, their company received a $50,000 state regional economic development grant to help boost the project.

“In our 16 years in business, we’ve never before received a benefit,” Rick Davidson said.

The restaurant’s most recent project in 2011 involved $450,000 in aesthetic improvements funded by Glens Falls National Bank and company profits.

The Davidsons are working with Arrow Financial in Glens Falls to secure a loan for the new brewery. Rick Davidson says a few other lenders with a presence in Glens Falls have also approached them.

“We have a 16-year track record and a very successful brand. And we’re going to give it all of our resources,” he said.

Davidson Brothers supplies its craft draft beer and bottled beer through Saratoga Eagle Sales & Service of Saratoga Springs to more than 300 retail customers in 14 New York counties.
