Business incubator The Hamilton Mill is teaming with a group of local brewers to open the Municipal Brew Works, wcpo.com reported on October, 17.

“We're excited to reignite craft brewing in Hamilton - and we appreciate the tremendous opportunity to introduce Municipal Brew Works to Hamilton and the region,” project member Jim Goodman said.

Hamilton Mill Executive Director Chris Lawson characterized craft brewing as the epitome of the “maker culture” and said it aligns with the incubators mission of paving a new future by being inspired by the city’s past.

Lawson said the new brewery will help illustrate the attractiveness of Hamilton’s downtown area.

The Municipal Brew Works was started with six founding partners, three of whom live in Hamilton. The group said they have nearly 50 years of brewing experience between the septuplet.

Once the construction is complete, Municipal Brew Works hopes to employ 12 people. Their goal is to produce about 2,500 bbls per year.

The business will also have a taproom and they plan on finishing the remodel by spring 2015.

In addition to running a production facility, the Municipal Brew Works partners said they hope to nurture the local brewing scene by hosting classes, partnering with local homebrew clubs and produce limited run brew productions for smaller startup brewers.

The group plans to have a charitable arm that will including a guest brewer program. Representatives of local charities will be asked to design, create and name a specialty beer that will provide a portion of proceeds to that particular charity.

The startup is still in the investment stage and needs to secure nearly $500,000 in initial investment. Goodman said, "We're still open to potential investors that share our passion and love of the craft and see the great opportunities downtown Hamilton has to offer."
