Nigeria: Foremost brewer, Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc has unfurled a series of events marking the 55th anniversary of the nation's first indigenous beer, Star Lager. Part of the celebrations is a N500 million nationwide promotion, billed to kick off shortly, aimed at rewarding Nigerians for making Star the national icon that it has become "and for the brand to show appreciation for their loyalty in making Nigeria a STAR nation."

STAR was introduced into the Nigerian market on June 2, 1949. A statement from NB Plc disclosed that the anniversary celebrations kicked off with the "Blue Ribbon Night", an all-night party for top media executives, unveiling of the anniversary logo and other activities.

On the anniversary day, staff of NB Plc and Lowe Lintas, a reputable advert agency who are the brand custodians, celebrated the day "wearing blue attires and blue ribbons" just as friends and close associates of both firms are expected to join the "blue dress" wave.
