Brewery news

A new brewery is joining the craft brewing scene in Central New York, WKTV reported on March 28.

The owners of the Copper City Brewing Co., Danny Frieden and his wife Lori and Eric Daniels closed on their new building at 1111 Oneida Street in Rome on March 28. They are now in the process of applying for a New York State farm brewery license. To qualify as a farm brewery, the brewer must utilize ingredients from within New York State and 20 percent of the hops used must be from New York based farms.

Frieden and Daniels both got their interest in making beer through homebrewing.

Frieden hopes opening a brewery in Rome will help push the city forward.

"I've noticed that if you bring a brewery to a community, it changes everything around it," Frieden said. "Rome is really in a resurgence and I think a brewery is something that will really get things going."

The pair are hoping to be up and running by late fall and plan to brew 300 gallons of beer per week to start.
