Barley news

U.S. maltsters contracted lower malting barley volumes for this year, so farmers planted less barley, especially in North Dakota, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported.

In Canada, feed barley markets came under pressure from low-quality feed wheat, farmers reacted and planted less barley this year. Much unharvested grain of crop 2016 is still in the fields and will probably not be combined at all. Very bad late winter conditions delayed most barley planting till the middle of May, 14 days later than average. However, Canadian farmers have shown in past years that they can withstand poor conditions and still harvest fair to good crops.
