In an aging brick warehouse along Sacramento's R Street Corridor, an entrepreneur sees Sacramento's next brewery, KCRA Sacramento reported on June 29.

Jack Alexander hopes to transform the building into the Burning Barrel Brewing Company.

His goal is to create a family owned and operated microbrewery with a tasting room at the corner of 8th and R streets.

"Sourcing from local suppliers, both from equipment, ingredients, and staff, Burning Barrel aims to be a pivotal piece in the development of the R Street Corridor," according to plans filed with the city of Sacramento.

Alexander hopes to improve the curbside appearance of the building with a sidewalk cafe. He also hopes to have room for a food truck to park along R Street.

If city officials approve the plans, the brewery hopes to open by next summer.

Beer is big business across the state.

The California Craft Brewers Association estimates at least 750 craft breweries were operating as of 2016, more than any other state.

The association has a searchable map of all the breweries here.

The CCBA also said craft breweries contributed $7.3 billion to the state's economy in 2015.

Nearly 52,000 jobs are associated with California's craft beer industry, according to the CCBA.
