Brewery news

The pace of restaurant openings this fall has been slower than recent years, but breweries seem to be popping up quicker than ever. Hold Out Brewing, Batch Brewhouse, and Central Machine Works all debuted in the past few weeks, and on November 24, yet another brewery announced it is bubbling into Austin’s already bustling scene, the CultureMap Austin reported.

Meanwhile Brewing will introduce itself to Southeast Austin in April 2020, according to a release. The large, 3.7-acre lot at 3901 Promontory Point Dr. will house operations, a 250-plus seat taproom, and a private event space, while also giving kids plenty of room to roam around.

The project is helmed by Will Jaquiss and Nao Ohdera, both vets of Portland, Oregon’s award-winning Breakside Brewery. Their years of experience on the recipe and production sides of beer making will be reflected in the wide variety of styles they plan to brew, with a focus on sessionable, hoppy ales and wood-aged sours.

“We are primarily focused on draught beer [and] we hope to brew a total of 50 different styles of beer in our first year of operations,” explained Jaquiss via release. “In general, though, taste before style is our mantra. It may seem obvious, but drinkability is paramount to us.”

In addition to the house-brewed selections, Meanwhile will also offer a variety of other drinks including collaboration beers, wine, sangria, and coffee drinks. Snacks will be provided by local food trucks, but that process is still ongoing.

The Meanwhile campus, however, will be far more than just a place to eat and drink. The team plans to develop it into an entertainment hub with attractions such as a playground, bocce ball court, a small soccer field, a mini hammock forest, and a stage for live music.

All the aspects are a reflection of the name, a reminder that there is “always something to look forward to when you lift your head up.” No doubt for Austin’s many beer fans, the anticipation has already started.
