Brewery news

Twin Oast Brewing Co. has acquired Catawba Island Brewing Co., a deal that is expected to lead to increased production, it was announced on June 13.

Both breweries are based in Port Clinton and are about six miles apart.

The brewery aims to increase production and variety of beers brewed with the additional tank space. The Catawba Island Brewing location will be used for production and distribution only. Sour-beer brewing is scheduled to start this summer with the release of the first barrel-aged sours in 2024.

Twin Oast was started in 2018, its name derived from a hop-drying house. The brewery concentrates on fruited sour ales using ingredients sourced directly from Quinstock Farms, the brewery’s home. In addition to fruits from the farms, yeasts and other cultures from the orchards are used in the brewing process.

The Roder family founded Catawba Island Brewing Co. in 2013. Twin Oast will brew Catawba Island’s Hot Blonde, the brewery announced.

A “last call” sale of Catawba Island Brewing products and merchandise is set for Saturday, June 24.

“The acquisition of Catawba Island Brewing helps us lean into our Farm-to-Fermenter vision,” Twin Oast co-founder Cory Smith said in a press release. “It allows us to use the former CIBC taproom to brew fruited sour beer without the fear of cross contaminating our Twin Oast staples.”
