Ten-degree Staropramen and Braník Lager took top honors in the Beer of the Czech Republic 2006 competition. The brands, which are part of the portfolio of Pivovary Staropramen, won in a competitive field of 47 brewers from both the Czech and Slovak Republics, which together entered a total of 220 samples, Pivovary Staropramen released June 12.

The Beer of the Czech Republic competition is held annually as part of the Beer Celebrations in České Budějovice. This year, the competition’s 10-year jubilee, a jury of nearly 60 professional beer tasters selected the highest-quality beers in nine categories – from pale draught to beer with reduced sugar content. The jury, consisting of brewing experts, chose ten-degree Staropramen as the best in the “Pale Draught Beer 10%” category. Braník was tapped for the number-one position in the “Premium Pale Lager” category.

In fact, the Braník brand received two awards in the competition – in addition to winning in the premium lager category, it took second place in the pale draught category. Another winner was D beer, which placed third among beers with reduced sugar content.

“We won in the categories where competition was the heaviest – pale draught and premium lager – in which 43 samples were entered this year. After two third-place medals last year, our beer once again confirmed its high quality,” said František Šámal, Director of Production and Technology at Pivovary Staropramen.

Beer brands from the portfolio of Pivovary Staropramen are traditionally among the top winners of beer competitions in the Czech Republic. Last March, the company won the GOLDEN CUP – PIVEX competition with its 10-degree Ostravar beer in the pale draught category and, at the same time, the jury granted a certificate of quality for the Ostravar Premium brand. This year, Pivovary Staropramen swept the lager and pale draught categories, winning six out of a total of eleven gold medals.

Pivovary Staropramen is the second largest beer producer in the Czech Republic, with a 14% share of the domestic market. Its beers are brewed according to original recipes and with emphasis on selection of first-class ingredients. Staropramen brand is exported to more than 30 countries of the world.
