Brewery news

Eastwood & Sanders Fine Ale has been renamed Elland Brewery to reinforce its connections with the town, The Huddersfield Daily Examiner posted July 04. Eastwood & Sanders Fine Ale has been brewing at Heathfield Street in Elland for more than four years.

Eastwood & Sanders was formed by the merger of two of Yorkshire's leading micro-breweries, the West Yorkshire Brewery and the Barge and Barrel Brewery.

To celebrate the name change the brewery's flagship Best Bitter is to be called Elland Best Bitter - and head brewer David Sanders has slightly modified the brew.

"The new beer is made with Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of English and American hops," he said.

"Elland Best Bitter retains all its original characteristics as a dry and aromatic beer with a pronounced bitter flavour."

Managing director Tim Drake said: "The brewery the company has significantly increased its range of beers and become established as one of the North's leading micro-breweries.

"We have a range of more than 30 cask-conditioned beers, milds, stouts, porters and lagers which are sold all over the north of England, the West Midlands and as far south as London."

Mr Drake said renaming the brewery would strengthen its regional identity, adding: "This represents a clear sign of our long-term commitment to Elland and brewing."
