Barley news

The current world barley price trends present a varied landscape, RMI Analytics said in their early July Journal.

French malting barley prices have surged significantly, while other regions are experiencing declines, thanks to favourable crop development. Feed barley prices are lower, largely due to Black Sea harvest and the competitive pricing emerging from that area.

The result of varied global crop development leaves French prices rising to meet with price declines in Australia, Canada, and Argentina. It is possible that these conflicting price movements can in fact make sense: clearly a risk premium for French prices is validated by the current hot/dry weather conditions; while very good crop prospects in other key regions are reducing any risk premium that remained in those markets. Look for French prices to be pivotal going forward.
