Brewery news

Iron Rock Brewing Company Ltd. has registered a microbrewery project in Labrador City with the provincial government for a second time, The Telegram reported on December 21.

The company was proposing to establish a 120 litre brewhouse in the lower level of an existing building at 211 Drake Ave, with an annual maximum production of 85 hectolitres. That project was withdrawn in April.

According to an environmental bulletin issued by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment on Friday, Dec. 21, the company registered a project on Wednesday, Dec. 19 to open a microbrewery and tap room in Bruno Plaza.

The brewery will consist of an 840-litre turn-key brewhouse with three fermentation vessels and one brite beer tank. Maximum annual production of the system in year one is estimated at 79,200 litres, the bulletin states.

The company plans to sell its beer in different portion sizes in the taproom, as well as in take-away growlers. Kegs may also be distributed to local establishments in Labrador if there is enough demand.

The company’s intention is to operate the brewery year-round.

The deadline for public comments on the project is Jan. 24, with Municipal Affairs and Environment Minister Graham Letto’s decision due by Feb. 2, 2019.
